21 Reasons to be thankful
This year, 2018, is a special year for us in a curious way. This year marks our 21st anniversary as a design studio. 21 years for 21x. Cute. Yes, it’s hard to believe, but in 1997, we decided to go out on our own, and make a go of it in the world of design. I’m not sure we had an idea of what was in store for us in the upcoming decades, but we both knew that the time felt right, and we felt as if we had enough prior experience to give us some kind of chance at making a good run of it. I don’t think we ever thought we’d still be in business after 21 years. Of course, like most businesses, we’ve had our ups and downs during this time. We’ve been honoured and thrilled to be a part of some incredible projects, and working with some amazing people. We have learned so much along the way. We’ve made our share of mistakes too, of course. But even our mistakes, helped us grow in the long-term. Our successes were always tempered by the knowledge that award winning design, and wonderful working relationships can be fleeting; one must never rest on your laurels. Our mantra has always been to “stay hungry.“ And so, we’ve tried our utmost, to do the best work possible in any given situation. To every client partner that we collaborated with, we always gave it our full attention, no matter what. We can honestly say, that we have never, in all those 21 years, ever skimped or given less than 100% of our attention to any project. Our goal was always to create something that simply “works” and might even become, in time, memorable.
Of course, seeing as this is Thanksgiving, it seems appropriate to thank a specific group of people that without whom, this business would not have been able to succeed at all. And that is all the wonderful people we’ve had as designers and interns in our office since 1997. Many have gone on to amazing work in their own right, and while they may or may not even think of their time here, as significant, their time working with us was always significant to us. We’ve seen our role as, designers helping the next generation of young designers find their own place in the world, and we appreciate all their time, and the creative energy that they brought to the studio.
So, on this Thanksgiving day, we’d like to thank the following people for all their work and dedication while they worked in our studio.
Julie Lam, Colleen DeMenna, Mary Claire Cruz, Anthony DeLuca, Kristen McCann, Michael Houtz, John Kutlu, Mitzie Testani, Uliana Zaytseva, Evan Dennis, Sasha X, Ron Cala, Allison Bitton, Megs Fulton, James Garrett, Chris Clemson, Lena Cardell, Neha Argarwal, Sean Brodbeck, Abby Guido, Adrienne Vesci, Tom Uhlein, Brian Cassidy, Brian Jolly, Erin Yearly, and Minjung Yu. If we forgot anyone, please let us know; it’s been a long time!
Congratulations on 21 years of hard work and dedication
